A Premiere to Remember!

The power of creativity, as well as  and the ability of art to open new perspectives constituted the focal point of the Animasyros 10 startling premiere, at the Apollon Municipal Theatre of Ermoupolis.

In the context of the creative collaboration, for the third consecutive year, with the Greek National Opera, a mesmerising gala was presented, so as to celebrate the festival’s 10th edition, with the three outstanding artists, Vasiliki Karagianni, Eleni Voudouraki, and Yiannis Christopoulos giving an unforgettable performance.

The President of Animasyros, Vassilis Karamitsanis, welcomed the audience highlighting the fact that the Festival could not have succeeded in becoming one of the 20 most prestigious animation festival worldwide, without the invaluable support of the people of Syros.

George Leontaritis, Deputy Head of Cyclades, Region of the South Aegean announced that Animasyros’ 10th anniversary coincides with the strengthening of the audiovisual sector. For, the Region of South Aegean has taken the lead in the submission and voting of a draft bill by the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunication & Media, paving the way to International film productions for Syros and for the islands of South Aegean.

Introductory speeches were also delivered by Thomais Mendrinou, Deputy Mayor of Cultural Affairs of Syros, Klimentini Diakomanoli, Head of Press and Media of the European Commission Representation in Greece, Margaritis Schinas, Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission and, Athanasios Theodoropoulos, President of the Greek National Opera.

The event ended with opera themed animation screenings. Amongst them, the experimental A Symphony for Rossini: Il Turco in Italia, by Monica Manganelli and the subversive Nausicaa  L’altra Odissea, by  Bepi Vigna.

Animasyros 10 is on!

A first morning  full of smiles and excitement: Screenings for children and teenagers  at the Apollo Theater,  interesting educational workshops for both young and old, the beginning of the “Focus on Brazil” Special Tribute, as well as the much anticipated inauguration of People with Disabilities-Ability Special Tribute with “Life Animated”.  And that was just the beginning! A spectacular opening ceremony, from the Greek National Opera, awaits us, tomorrow, Thursday, 28.9, at 21.00!

Tribute: “People with Disabilities-Ability”

The participation and access of People with Disabilities in Animasyros – International Animation Festival + Agora activities constitutes a key priority for the organization. It has been largely expressed through the implementation of a numerous media literacy programmes, resulting in the creation of animated films, which, in turn, are disseminated through Animasyros’ national, as well as worldwide, cultural events.

This year’s tribute “People with Disabilities-Ability” includes films that, on one hand, address the concept of diversity awareness and sensitivity while, on the other hand, focuses on films created by disabled people, in order to demonstrate that creativity is the means by which People with Disabilities could be assimilated into the wider social environment. The tribute includes 15 animated films that are shown free of charge, while the accessibility for Persons with disability in the screening halls is secured.

The tribute on “PwD-Ability” is implemented by the Operational Program “Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning” and its co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund) and Greek National Funds.
