The coronavirus pandemic changed the landscape of civilization, leading to a shift to online events and activities. As part of the festival’s online activities, five online animation workshops were held.
1. ANIMATED INCLUSION WORKSHOP

The ANIMASYROS International Animation Festival in collaboration with ACTIONAID HELLAS organized an online animation workshop entitled “Animated Inclusion”. A workshop aimed at introducing and learning animation techniques with a thematic core of migration and the integration of refugees in society.
2. ANIMAXMAS 2020

In December 2020, the students of Syros were invited to remotely create their own digital Christmas card with images of the beautiful Ermoupolis as their background. The Christmas animated wishes made by the children with simple materials and processed through digital devices traveled from Syros to all of Greece and around the world. The workshop was implemented with the initiative & funding of the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis, under the supervision of educators Ioanna Giakoumatou and Christina DePian.
3. MASKS EVERYWHERE

In the framework of the Carnival of Syros “Georgios Souris” 2021, with the initiative & funding of the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis, the online workshop for children entitled “MASKS EVERYWHERE” was organized. The traditions and the carnival of Syros were united in the online stop motion and cut-out animation workshop with rising animator Polyxeni Katsari as the educator. The online workshops are conducted via the zoom platform with simultaneous rebroadcasting from the Animasyros International Animation Festival Facebook page. The educator sends information material with the instructions, materials and information of the application that the participants will be asked to use before the workshop. During the workshop, a lecture and demonstration of animation techniques take place. Upon completion of the workshop, participants are asked to apply the knowledge gained, creating their own video which they send to the instructor to be added to a final deliverable with the overall work of the participating team.
4. AN AMAZING SOLAR SYSTEM
Target Group: students aged 9-13

Date: 29/05/2021 On Saturday, May 29, the students held on tight and embarked on an intergalactic journey full of animation. What would you like to encounter on a distant planet? What do you think the other planets in our galaxy look like? Who lives there and what do they do? Are they aliens or are they imaginary plants that can talk? Under the guidance of educator Margarita Simopoulou, participants had the opportunity to answer these questions, imagine what the planets are like in distant galaxies and create their own animated film with stop motion and cut-out animation techniques.
5. THE MOVEMENT OF FREEDOM

On Saturday, June 5, 2021, under the educational supervision of the animator Maria-Loukia Mitrakou, the students, inspired by the well-known paintings by the German painter Peter Von Hess about the Greek Revolution, created “moving” images with the techniques of cut out animation and collage. An animation on the theme of freedom, a concept unchanging and universal in time.
The present forms part of the project Animathesis, which is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
